Tuesday 8 March: Dr Alan Deighton - 'A Shocking Case of Starvation in Hull'

A tale of Victorian scandal comes to Hedon & District Local History Society on Tuesday 8 March, when Dr Alan Deighton reveals the extraordinary history of 'Count' Adolph de Werdinsky, alias Dr David Beck. Werdinsky died in penury in Hull in 1856 and is buried in the Western Cemetery, Spring Bank, 'By Strangers Honor'd And By Strangers Mourn'd' - but what lies behind the memorial to this self-proclaimed Polish aristocrat?
